Places To Stay in Downtown Knoxville

Residence Inn by Marriott Knoxville Downtown

The Residence Inn shares a building with the Courtyard Knoxville Downtown, one block off Gay Street, downtown Knoxville’s “Main Street”. It’s a short walk from here to performances at the Tennessee Theatre or the Bijou Theatre.

Knoxville’s Hidden Hotels?

These two hotels occupy a building on State Street between Cumberland Avenue and Church Street. And, to be honest, it’s not the most noticeable location in downtown Knoxville. If you’re arriving by car, the entrance on Church Street looks more like the entrance to a parking garage than a hotel. But that doesn’t mean the Residence Inn isn’t an excellent option for a visit.

As usual with this hotel brand, the Residence Inn has some amenities appropriate for longer stays. All rooms include a full kitchen and a decent sized desk. The one-bedroom suites have separate living and sleeping spaces. Guests have access to a fitness center and on-site laundry facilities. Parking is available (for a fee) at the hotel, but the city-operated State Street and Kessel garages are both two blocks from the hotel.

One Block Off Gay Street

Downtown Knoxville’s primary eating, drinking and shopping area, Gay Street, is just one block west of the hotel. The Residence Inn is perfect for anything that might be happening at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum, about a five minute walk east on Church Street. Broadway shows, big-time musical performances, movies and more are offered at the Tennessee Theatre and the Bijou Theatre, both of which are just two blocks from the hotel.

Within Walking Distance

The hotel’s location on the eastern edge of downtown makes it a bit of a longer hike to some of the major attractions in the city, but you may find the following within your walking comfort zone:

  • Market Square (restaurants and shopping, approximately 10 minutes)
  • Knoxville Convention Center (15 minutes)
  • Covenant Health Park (minor league baseball and soccer, 20 minutes)
  • Neyland Stadium (University of Tennessee football, 30 minutes)
